The 'Cat Poo' coffee

We have had a very busy few weeks with Grandpa Norman and Grandma Duck visiting us, along with Mama and Papa Clay (Matt's grandparents) and Uncle Nathan. Two weeks of school holidays flew by and we are now back for term 3.

Thomas and Zach are currently having a special time with their grandparents at Magnetic Island, while Matt and I are enjoying the ease of caring for only one child! We even stayed out past 10pm last night for our weekly curry evening! We took advantage of having only one child today and took a quick tour of the birthing suites at the Townsville Hospital (I thought we should at least know where we are going when I go into labour!)

We continued our morning with some window shopping and enjoyed an early lunch while Harry had a nap in the pram... !! Matt and I then enjoyed an evening out to dinner - a very luxurious weekend for us!

Last weekend we took Grandma Duck, Grandpa Norman, Mama and Papa to visit the Heritage Tea Rooms at Harveys Range. You may have heard of it as it was featured on Border Security and Sunrise last year.

As the sign reads, it is $50 for a cup of 'Cat Poo' coffee! The Kopi Luwak is a cat-like creature found in Indonesia and its diet appears to include coffee beans. The coffee bean is digested whole and can be scooped up in a pile of its poo! You can find out more information by googling 'cat poo coffee'!!

I first heard of this $50 cup of 'cat poo coffee' from a friend in Brisbane who had recently visited The Harvey's Range Tea Rooms while she was in Townsville visiting family. About a week later, Sunrise were broadcasting the weather segment from the home of 'cat poo coffee' where they mentioned the trouble they had the previous evening when they were on 'Border Security' having trouble getting their coffee beans through customs!

With the grandparents also very fanatical about their coffee we decided that we couldn't leave Townsville without visiting the home of the 'cat poo coffee'! Ok... so we didn't really try it but we did enjoy the drive to Hervey's Range, a cup of tea with some scones and jam.

While we sat and enjoyed our very civilized afternoon tea we read about the Kopi Luwak and leafed through the pages of comments left by visitors who have actually tried the coffee... The comments were hilarious and included ones like:

"The cafe was great but pity about the crap coffee"

"Petrol costs from Airlie Beach: $50
Price of Accommodation: $150
The look on your face when you realize you are drinking 'poo coffee': PRICELESS".

It was a great afternoon and we may just have to try the coffee once before we leave Townsville!
