It is no secret that we love Brisbane and its lifestyle and for us it is the place we call 'home'. It has also proven to be the only place we have lived without health problems! With a whole year of good health last year we have moved to Townsville expecting the same. However, in the past four months we have had one bout of asthma, 2 ear infections, bronchiolitis (RSV), croup and a bunch of colds that don't seem to go away. Matt and I have both been on antibiotics for chest infections and Harry hasn't yet been able to breathe without a wheeze since his bronchiolitis. With trips to the doctors and ENT specialist we are now back in for surgery before we fly down to Melbourne at the end of May.
Thomas had quite a significant ear ache about a month ago and the only way we could get him to go to sleep was using the wonder drug 'pain stop'. Complaining of a sore ear the following day along with a chesty cold and cough we ended up taking him to the doctor who put him on antibiotics. Although the doctor didn't mention an ear infection it was clear in the following weeks that something wasn't quite right with Thomas when his response to everything was 'what?' and the music was never loud enough in the car.
So, back to the ENT for a second time this year to discover what we had already suspected... more fluid in the ear and a second round of grommets. Thomas has enjoyed swimming without earplugs and headbands so he isn't very impressed with having more grommets. Our next couple of weeks will be busy arranging surgery so we can fly to Melbourne without any ear problems.
