The Drive to Townsville

We cut our time a few days short in Ballarat to get to Townsville to start the house hunt. The four day drive was hard yakka! The first day started at 3am and by the time we reached Dubbo at 3.30pm we decided to call it a day. We concluded that we had 3 more days ahead of us and we didn't want to push our luck with the boys! The drive to Melbourne was very looooooong when Harry proved to be a not-so-good traveller. We decided that maybe we needed a car seat swap. Harry was put on a window side so we could hang up toys hoping that this may assist in occupying him! Surprisingly, Harry had stopped his high pitched squeal and was an awesome traveller. The toys seemed to occupy him and he even managed to grab a few zzzz's. Although the car seat swap was great for Harry a new issue arose... Thomas and Zach were in hitting distance of each other! Although they travelled incredibly well, Thomas and Zach knew exactly how to push each other's buttons ie. placing a finger on the other's car seat long enough to annoy them, snatching toys etc!

At the end of our second day travelling we were welcomed in by good friends Grant and Cath who spoiled us with dinner and a birthday cake for Thomas. The boys enjoyed playing with Amelie for one last time and we enjoyed the wonderful hospitality and friendship of Grant and Cath. Leaving Brisbane at 5am the following morning was a bit emotional. The reality of leaving Brisbane and moving to Townsville really hit home as we drove towards the sunshine coast.

Matt and I were talking about driving through to Mackay. We were making good time and were going to arrive in Gin Gin for morning tea. About 10km out of Gin Gin we heard an unfamiliar sound... D'oh!

As you can see the tyre of the trailer blew a few layers! We had a picnic on the side of the road while Matt changed the tyre.

Our morning tea stop ended up being a 2 and a half hour morning tea, lunch and a play in the park! We were very lucky to be able to get the bearing of the trailer replaced in Gin Gin and the boys enjoyed having a few hours out of the car. We still made it to Rockhampton by about 3.30pm and called it a day. The rest of the drive was uneventful but we were excited when we arrived in Townsville and knew we didn't have to drive anymore!
